Westbrook Harmony Grove Elementary Kathleen Marleneanu

Intrigued by teaching artist and professional dancer, Kathleen Marleneanu, first grade students at Westbrook Elementary School in Harmony Grove School District participate in a workshop entitled “Spinning with the Wind.” This workshop is based on The Wizard of Oz which students read as part of their curriculum. Students learn to express the emotions of the different characters through dance. One teacher said, “Kathleen did a wonderful job incorporating vocabulary words and encouraging the students to be expressive.”
Ms. Marleneanu uses dance to interest students in further learning opportunities supported by Arkansas Learning Through The Arts, affiliated with the National Young Audiences Arts for Learning network. The program supports learning opportunities in 25 schools throughout the state.
